HELLO!

My name is Mikael Lindgren and I’m a freelance video game designer and media artist based in Stockholm, Sweden. My development experience covers a wide variety of genres and platforms gained from nearly 14 years in the industry. Interested in what I can do for your project? Random thoughts.

The digital entertainment industry is in a constant flux with new media and converging technologies redrawing the map almost on a daily basis. It’s hard to be on top of things since yesterday’s truths quickly become obsolete. Suddenly a new platform emerges and a plethora of exciting possibilities appear, closely followed by new user behaviors. From your favorite smartphone to your on-line social networking application, games can be found anywhere.

But whatever cool game you want to make, on whichever platform you have in mind, the experience you’re looking for must always be designed, explored, and thoroughly tested. I know, it all sounds bleeding obvious, but it’s actually more complex than one might think; game design is not a science, it’s a process requiring a bunch of different methods, ideas, and skill sets to become successful. I can help you in this process regardless if you are starting up a new project or just need an external, unbiased designer, to critically oversee the current state of your game. I got a pretty good idea of what makes a game tick and can help you distill and refine mechanics and story.

Pitching a new game concept can be just as demanding: How do you successfully attract attention and express the awesomeness of your game? I consider myself a generalist with broad and deep knowledge in game production and interactive media development. My experience covers platforms like PlayStation 2 and 3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, handheld devices, PC and the web.
I’ve also worked with a wide variety of genres for different target audiences. Some examples are; kids’ games, action, hack-n-slash, sports, shooters and fantasy games. Here's what I can do for you:

MY CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS:

- Designer at SimWay AB, working on some exciting new products, including a joint research project together with Mobile Life/ SICS.

- Program Director at Futuregames, a vocational education for aspiring game designers and 3D artists in Stockholm.

 

- I also take on small and quick assignments on freelance basis, for example; general game audits, evaluation of playabilty and mechanics. A recent example is ABCity, a danish game website for kids.
